Restricted summer hours for dogs on Grand Strand beaches set to begin

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – For visitors and residents, this is the last weekend until the fall to take those four-legged companions to some of the area’s beaches.

Starting May 1, no dogs will be allowed on Myrtle Beach and Horry County beaches from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

This restriction is in place through Labor Day, according to information on the city’s and county’s website.

Two weeks later, on May 15, dogs will not be allowed on the beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in North Myrtle Beach. That restriction is lifted on Sept. 15, according to the city’s website.

Surfside Beach’s restriction runs for the same period as North Myrtle Beach.

According to the Georgetown County website, there is no period where dogs aren’t allowed on those beaches. However, pets must be leashed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
