SWAT teams rescue 6 officers from South Carolina prison riot


TRENTON, S.C. (AP) – SWAT teams have removed six correctional officers caught in a riot at a South Carolina prison.

WRDW-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2ryIIvw) that the officers were removed early Thursday morning from the Trenton Correctional Institute. They allegedly have varying injuries. Investigators haven’t disclosed whether any inmates were injured.

Officials tell the news station that the “situation has stabilized.” There were multiple fires inside the facility, but all have been put out.

Further information has not been released.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, multiple SWAT teams and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division all responded to the scene.
