Body of man missing for 2 days in South Carolina river IDed

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Authorities have identified a man who drowned while swimming in a river near South Carolina’s capitol.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 25-year-old Fredrick Babu’s body resurfaced Tuesday in the Congaree River in Columbia, two days after other people swimming with him reported he disappeared.

Watts said in a news release that Babu drowned. He was from Andrews.

Authorities say three other people swimming with Babu also got into trouble Sunday. One made it to shore safely and two others were rescued by someone passing by the area.
