2 boys charged with setting fire at abandoned mill

LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say two boys under the age of 15 set a fire that destroyed an abandoned mill in South Carolina.

Pickens County Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said they boys lit a piece of paper on fire with a cigarette lighter Thursday and dropped it on the floor of the Cateechee Mill.

Hashe says it took firefighters from five departments to put out the massive blaze that destroyed the old mill near Liberty.

Hashe said in a news release the boys were charged Friday as juveniles with third-degree arson and unlawful entry and released to the custody of their parents. He did not release their exact ages, saying they were between 8 and 14 years old.

No one was injured in the fire.
