Deputies: Clinton homeowner follows vultures, smell on property and discovers body

CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) –

Deputies said an Upstate homeowner made a grisly discovery on Saturday.

Officials with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office said they got a call just before 6:30 p.m.about the discovery of a deceased person on Imperial Drive in Clinton.

Once they arrived on scene, deputies said the homeowner told them that he saw vulture near the wood line at the back of his home when he pulled into his yard.

When he got out of his vehicle, the homeowner told deputies he’d noticed a foul smell. Initially, the homeowner told deputies he thought an animal may have died, but when he went to investigate the situation, he found a deceased person laying inside the wood line.

The Laurens County coroner responded to the scene.

Deputies said the deceased person appears to be a male, however his identity is unknown at this time, pending an autopsy.

On Sunday, investigators with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office were still on scene.

Deputies said it is not clear if the death is suspicious or not at the time and they are awaiting more details from the coroner.
