JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) – A reported drowning of an 11-year-old girl in South Carolina has led to a search of the Stono River.
News outlets report multiple agencies responded Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. to the reported drowning on Johns Island, and were searching the river near the Limehouse Bridge.
Crews were using boats and helicopters to look for the child, before the search was suspended at midnight because of impending weather and a tidal shift. St. John’s Fire District officials said nine marine units were in the water and a joint command center had been established.
The search will resume Monday morning. The Limehouse Boat Landing will remain closed until further notice.
The girl has not been identified.
