Coroner identifies man killed in Cherokee Co. motorcycle crash

The coroner has identified a man killed in a motorcycle crash in Cherokee County on Sunday.

According to Coroner Dennis Fowler, 19-year-old James Derrick Henson of South Shelby Street was traveling on a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading east on Oak Grove Road, 2 miles west Blacksburg around 3 p.m.

Fowler said Henson’s motorcycle was hit head on by a 2010 Honda heading west, that crossed over the center line. Henson was ejected from the motorcycle when it was struck by the Honda, per troopers.

Troopers said the Honda then drove over the right side of the road, crashing into a fence. The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital. A juvenile was also in the vehicle.

Henson, who was wearing a helmet was injured and pronounced dead on scene, said Fowler. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning.

Henson worked as a firefighter, according to the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department.

This crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.

Troopers said charges are pending.
