Armed man shot in South Carolina after standoff

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – An armed man has been shot by SWAT officers in South Carolina following a standoff.

News outlets report Rock Hill police say they received reports of a man standing on his front porch with a gun on Thursday around 4 p.m., and when they arrived, he pointed a handgun at them before barricading himself inside the house.

Authorities say the 30-year-old man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, had a mental health pickup order on him.

Police say SWAT members entered the house after multiple attempts to negotiate were rebuffed. Two officers opened fire on the man, who was armed.

The man has been airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. His condition is unknown. No one else was injured.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
