GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A fisherman participating in a fishing competition discovered a man’s body Thursday in the Black River, according to Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson. Johnson says the death appears to be by drowning and there is no foul play suspected.
The victim has been identified as Cedrick Devon Lawrence, 30, of the Plantersville community, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. His identification was made based on clothing, scars and dental records. Lawrence was reported missing on Wednesday.
The body was found around 12 p.m., deputies say. Coroner Johnson confirms the body was brought out of the river through Pringle Ferry Landing. The fisherman noticed something in the water, and when he went over to investigate, discovered the body.
An autopsy was conducted Friday morning at Grand Strand Medical Center.
The GCSO continues to investigate.
