HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – At one Myrtle Beach steakhouse the inspector found dirty floors, and rusty equipment, which affects their score, and one North Myrtle Beach bistro is considered a ‘hidden gem’ among locals.
For Julia Poole, it’s the food, the atmosphere, and the people that she enjoys most at Midtown Bistro in North Myrtle Beach.
“Great filet mignon, any of his seafood is great, he has lots of great specials” said Poole. “It is just very comfortable here, I feel likes we’re family.”
Poole says she visits the restaurant 2 to 3 times a week. “It’s a hidden gem in North Myrtle Beach,” stated Poole.
Kelly Patterson has been a bartender at the restaurant for six years. She says when people walk into Midtown Bistro, they are taken away by the ambiance, and that’s what keeps them coming back.
“When you come into the bar we have a lot of the same people, they sit in the same places and we’ve all really become family,” said Patterson.
Patterson says her boss, restaurant owner Jeff Martini, works really hard to make the restaurant different. Patterson says customers can make reservations at the bar, they offer free valet parking, and the owner uses his own boat, to capture fresh fish. If you pay attention to the decor you’ll find Midtown Bistro also features art of some of the most talented artists in the Grand Strand.
The restaurant had a visit from a DHEC inspector, the restaurant scored a 91, an A rating. According to the report, the inspector observed reduced oxygen packaged fish, beef, and pork was not date-marked after thawing. The violations were corrected.
“I already knew that he would be a great score because he’s very proud of this restaurant and you can tell, you can tell when an owner is very proud of their restaurant,” explained Poole.
Patterson says the restaurant and the entire staff work really hard to follow guidelines and get everything right.
“We definitely take pride in that and when the health inspector comes in she lets us know if something is not right, and then we work together with her to fix it,” explained Patterson.
A DHEC inspector made a visit to the Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery at Broadway at the Beach. The restaurant scored an 86 – a “B” rating – on its recent health inspection. According to the report, the inspector found three critical violations.
The inspector reportedly observed there was not hot water available at the hand and prep sink on the end of the cook line. It was also observed that there was not running cold water available at the hand sink in the employee restroom. Inspector observed some food in cold storage was not at the proper temperatures.
The inspector also said the interior of the large ice machine was rusted. According to the health inspection report, the door hinges were rusted and no longer supported the lids. A thermometer was missing from a prep cooler, according to the report and said rust and build up was observed on the exterior top of the dish machine.
A follow up inspection is scheduled to happen within 10 days.
