NORTH CHARLESTON S.C. (AP) – Officials have released the name of a teen found shot to death in a stolen car in South Carolina.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office told local media that 15-year-old Derrick Grant of Charleston died when he was shot in the chest in North Charleston on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said officers were called around 8 a.m. Wednesday and found the teen in the car.
A police report said a 24-year-old man told officers his car had been stolen Tuesday when he left the keys in it for a moment and saw a male drive away.
The owner said he found the car Wednesday and confronted Grant, who was inside the vehicle, before shooting him.
The owner’s name has not been released. No charges have been filed.
